DIY Face & Body Scrubs

Almond and oat scrub 1.jpg

Regular exfoliation removes dead skin cells which build up on the surface of the skin, cleans  away oil, dirt and impurities, unblocks pores, detoxifies, stimulates circulation and clears the  complexion.  It also stimulates circulation, improving the flow of oxygen and nutrients to the  skin and aiding detoxification.  It will also nourish the skin through the many nutrients and  vitamins found in the chosen ingredients.

Face and body scrubs are some of the easiest skincare products you can make yourself, they are so much fun to create, and save you a lot of money in the long term.

The options really are endless for what you can use to create your scrubs.  Here are some suggestions; ground nuts, poppy seeds, ground citrus peels, dried herbs, ground beans, salt, sugar, ground coffee, spices.

Keep in mind that the skin on the face is much more delicate than on the body and can easily  be damaged if the wrong exfoliating product is used or if it is used too often, so choose finer  and softer  ingredients.

When using always avoid the delicate area around the eyes.

Below are some recipes and ideas to get you started.

NUT FACE SCRUB
So simple to make and will leave your skin soft and smooth.

1/2 cup finely ground nuts of your choice
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil (or other oil of your choice)

Mix together to form a smooth paste.  To use gently massage into the skin and rinse with warm water.

CITRUS SCRUB
This is another great way to use up those citrus peels.  Remove the white pith and dry out in a dehydrator or oven at 90 degrees C.  Make sure the peels are completely dry then place in a  food processor and grind into a fine powder.  You can make bulk amounts when citrus fruits  are in season and have it ready to use for the rest of the year.

To use add water or oil and gently massage into skin. Or add to other ingredients such as nuts and herbs to create scrubs and face masks.
